2008 Society of The 3rd
Infantry Division
Awards for Excellence
At the 89th annual reunion banquet
of The Society of the 3rd Infantry Division at
Columbus/Fort Benning, Society Awards Chairperson Lynn Ball
announced seventeen awards on behalf of the Society.
One Society Special
Service Award was presented to a retiring Executive Committee
Member, and Immediate Past President, Charles C. Trout selected nine
individuals to receive President’s Special Awards for specific
contributions to the Society. Additionally, one “Soldier of the
Year” and one “NCO of the Year,” selected by the military are being
honored. By majority vote, our Society Vice Presidents (Michael
Baker, John Fisher, and Jerry Manley) elected the recipients of the
Society Service Awards, the Associate Member Award, and the Audie
Murphy Achievement Award. Their elections were made based on

Chairman Ball. Each election package contained all nominations,
