More looks at some of the daily occurrences of the GI’s during World War 2. Some views show spiritual scenes of GI’s at prayer, others show the repugnance of war. Liberation, humor, freedom, rewards, degradation, and conquest are the characteristics of these photos and Bill Mauldin cartoons.

The American flag was officially raised over the Zeppelin Stadium Hazenkreuz in Nuremberg on April 21, 1945. Nuremberg was the scene of yearly Nazi Party rallies from 1933-1938. Zeppelin Stadium was built by Albert Speer from 1934-1937.

The Zeppelinfeld Hakenkreuz gets the boot in Nuremberg courtesy of the 120th Engineers. Deep inside Germany by April of 1945, advancing armies were quickly unraveling the last of the “Thousand-year Reich”.
