Traitors, Fraternization, and Entertainment

3rd Division GIs searching villagers as suspects,

Cori, Italy.

French resistants, shaving head of woman who “Fraternized” with German troops. This picture must have been taken by a half dozen photographers at the same time. If you look at photo histories of World War II, that girl is seen from more angles than a replay of a touchdown at the Super Bowl. She was not an Intern working for the Nazi’s. It was New Year’s Eve and it seemed like the thing to do at the time. Do you realize that if she is alive today, she is in her 80’s. Time flies when you’re having a good time.

“Pleased to Meet you!”

Say T-4 Harry S. Clark, Pfc. Oscar L. Bedford, T-5 Marion A. Summers and Pfc. Chin Yu all of Division Headquarters Company, when they encountered this mädchen on the roadside near Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Heroes

Italian Partisans marching down main street after helping Allied troops secure village.

French Sailors and Soldiers saluting their Allies.

Thirteen year old French lad, who killed seventeen Nazi soldiers, marching with fellow Partisans.

On April 22, 1945, Lt. Gen. A. M. Patch, Seventh Army Commander, conferred the Medal of Honor on five 3rd Division officers and men. Left to right: Lt. Col. Keith L. Ware, Lt. John J. Tominac, T/Sgt. Russell E. Dunham, S/Sgt. Lucien Adams, and Pfc. Wilburn K. Ross.

64 years ago , men of the 3rd Infantry Division captured Berchtesgaden. Let us raise our glasses in a toast to all those who did not make it home and to those who did but have since left us and to those still with us and those still protecting our freedom.
In the words of Joe Fournier, Sr. “Lest we forget”.
HEROES ALL!
ROCK OF THE MARNE
This photo of General O’Daniel, General Leclerc de Hauteclocque, and Lieutenant De Valence was most certainly taken in Berchtesgaden on May 5, 1945.
